Overview

Osmosis and #FirstRespondersFirst have collaboratively developed an interactive e-learning course on mental health training for first responders. Based on materials and subject matter experts provided by #FirstRespondersFirst, the course includes custom Osmosis animations/videos, text resources, and assessments within 8 core modules each consisting of one or more videos (approximately 11 videos in total for a total of 50+ minutes of video content), other learning materials, and assessment items. The total estimated time to completion will be 3 - 4 hours. This course is entirely free for nurses.

Nurses and nurse leaders.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the physiology of stress, anxiety, and burnout
  • Access way to self-identify stress and its impact on a practitioner’s practice
  • Implement strategies to avoid toxic stress cycles/levels

Kyle Slinn

Kyle Slinn (RN, BScN, MEd) is a project manager and instructional designer at Osmosis. Before Osmosis, he worked as a project coordinator for Khan Academy Medicine where he managed the creation of videos, questions, and text-based articles for MCAT and NCLEX-RN students. Kyle also worked in the pediatric intensive care unit as a nurse at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Ottawa and holds a Master of Education in Distance Education from Athabasca University. For Osmosis, Kyle has written, edited, filmed, and produced videos, as well as written and designed Osmosis's textbooks and High-Yield Note products. With his free time, Kyle loves to travel, read, rock climb, camp, hike, ski, play board games, and play musical instruments. He always has at least two personal projects on the go. Most recently, he's been digitizing old family photos, and studying intellectual property and contract law.
